Rishiraj Bera | 1A3 | Wushu
“My first year at Hwa Chong has been extremely fruitful, filled with meaningful opportunities for growth and self-discovery. I took part in the Art Elective Programme (AEP), where friendly and supportive teachers guided me to develop my artistic skills and express myself with greater confidence.
The programme also includes enriching learning journeys that deepen our appreciation of the arts and make the AEP experience truly fulfilling. Through these moments, I have formed close friendships and gained a wide range of creative techniques.
Hwa Chong also places a strong emphasis on character development. One memorable example was the Secondary One Annual Camp, where I experienced the Hwa Chong spirit firsthand. My friends and I learned to stay resilient, work as a team, and support one another through challenges.
Embracing this school spirit, I look forward to continuing my journey of growth and learning alongside my peers in the years ahead.”

Chen Siqi | 1O1 | Wushu
“Participating in the Chinese Literature Programme and Wushu as my co-curricular activities at Hwa Chong has been an enriching and meaningful journey. Through the Chinese Literature Programme, I have developed a deeper appreciation for Chinese culture, language, and history, guided by a passionate and encouraging teacher whose dedication made learning truly enjoyable.
Hwa Chong’s strong Chinese cultural environment has made the experience even more distinctive, allowing me to fully immerse myself and grow in both confidence and character.
Wushu has taught me discipline, resilience, and teamwork, with supportive instructors who continually motivated me to improve. Hwa Chong’s nurturing community and emphasis on tradition have helped me build a stronger sense of cultural identity while equipping me with valuable life skills.
I am truly thankful for the guidance and encouragement of my teachers throughout this journey.”

Asher Quek | 2i4 | National Cadet Corps
“My Hwa Chong journey has been one of growth, resilience, and camaraderie. As a freshman, the vast campus initially felt intimidating, but experiences like the Secondary One Orientation Camp helped me acclimatise and deepened my understanding of the 自强不息 spirit — to never give up and always strive for excellence.
As an NCC cadet and student councillor, this spirit has guided me through demanding training and event preparation, teaching me values such as discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. These experiences are rooted in the strong support, camaraderie, and shared values — like 饮水思源 — that define the Hwa Chong community.
As I continue my journey through secondary school, I look forward to further developing my skills and giving back to the community that has already given me so much.”

Kenneth Toh | 3A3 | St John’s Brigade Singapore
“Hwa Chong offers a multitude of opportunities for growth — whether in leadership, learning, or personal development. As part of the Computing Talent Programme (CTP), I have developed meaningful coding skills that empower me to tackle real-world problems.
Outside the classroom, my CCA, St John Brigade Singapore, has taught me essential life-saving skills and strengthened my leadership through rigorous training and service. The hands-on experience and structured courses have built not only technical competence but also the confidence to lead under pressure.
Guided by the school’s core value of 饮水思源, I was inspired to give back by joining the ProEd Council. There, I found a close-knit, supportive community and countless opportunities to lead with purpose. It has been a privilege to grow as a servant leader — and an honour to serve as the Council Chairman.”

Isaac Chung | 3i1 | Media Tech
“Hwa Chong has allowed me to develop in multiple areas and provided a platform to grow both my strengths and interests. Through programmes like Math Olympiad training, I have been able to explore mathematical concepts beyond the standard curriculum and gain deeper insights into problem-solving and creative thinking.
My journey has also been shaped by my CCA, Media Tech, where I have had the opportunity to work behind the scenes on school events. Beyond my CCA, the diverse leadership opportunities in both CCAs and the Student Council have helped me become a more confident communicator and a reliable team player. While juggling multiple commitments can be overwhelming at times, the best part of Hwa Chong is its supportive community. Teachers and classmates are always ready to lend a helping hand, and the friendships I have built here have made my journey much more meaningful.”

Sean Siew | 4i3 | English Debate Club
“Hwa Chong has been a catalyst for both my personal and academic growth. Through the Science and Mathematics Talent Programme (SMTP) and participation in Olympiads, I have been continually challenged to think both critically and creatively. The weekly Olympiad sessions and the SMTP research module have enriched my learning, allowing me to delve deeper into the world of science and mathematics — sharpening my research abilities and broadening my understanding of complex concepts.
Beyond academics, the Hwa Chong Spirit has instilled in us a shared drive to push beyond our limits. This spirit, deeply ingrained in every Hwa Chongian, has fostered a culture of camaraderie and mutual support.
These experiences — anchored in robust talent development programmes and a vibrant school culture — have not only honed my skills but also shaped my character. They are what make me proud and honoured to be part of this community.”

Ryan Yao | 4i4 | English Debate Club
“Hwa Chong has given me countless fulfilling experiences, especially through my CCA, English Debate, where I have formed close friendships and unforgettable memories. The many hours spent training and preparing cases reflect the spirit of 自强不息 and our shared drive for excellence.
I am especially grateful for the Hwa Chong community — my teammates, friends, and seniors who supported me unconditionally, and my coaches who continually pushed me to go beyond “good enough.” This culture of excellence and encouragement inspired me to train hard and represent Hwa Chong in national competitions — an experience that has been both humbling and deeply meaningful. Being able to wear the Hwa Chong uniform during competition and stand for something greater than myself has made every moment of effort worthwhile.
When I first joined Hwa Chong, I never imagined how much the people I would meet and the skills I would learn would change my life. For that, I am deeply grateful.”

Li Xiyuan | 4O1 | Track & Field and Cross Country
“My experience in Hwa Chong has profoundly shaped the person I am today. Beyond academic excellence, I have grown in character and forged many cherished memories with my peers. Hwa Chong is truly a gateway to endless possibilities, offering every student countless opportunities to explore their passions, realise their potential, and ultimately, flourish.
As a student in the Bicultural Studies Programme (BSP), I can confidently attest to this. All BSP students — not just scholars — take part in meaningful immersion programmes that broaden our perspectives. We are also given the invaluable opportunity to participate in the annual Asian Youth Chinese Forum (AYCF), where we contribute to important discussions and take on leadership roles that challenge and develop us.
To me, this is the hallmark of the Hwa Chong experience — a holistic education that nurtures both the mind and the heart.”

Aden Yip | 4i4 | Choir
“The Hwa Chong Students' Council is founded on unity and purpose. As One Council, we make decisions collectively and honour our commitments with conviction. Serving in Council has taught me the value of collaboration and the weight of responsibility.
At the same time, the Humanities Programme has deepened and refined my approach to leadership. It has sharpened my ability to think critically, communicate persuasively, and solve problems creatively. In class, we regularly apply our learning to real-world issues, equipping us with the perspective and adaptability to lead in complex situations.
Beyond the classroom, Hwa Chong’s leadership development frameworks have offered invaluable opportunities for growth through mentorship and reflective practice. As a Service Learning group leader, I have drawn on these experiences to guide my team with clarity and compassion.
Above all, the school value of 饮水思源 constantly reminds me to give back — to serve the community with gratitude and to always remember those who have supported us along the way.”

Jonathan Phillip Hoare | 4P1 | Track & Field and Cross Country
“As a member of the National Track and Field squad and captain of the Hwa Chong Track and Field team, I have had the privilege of leading initiatives such as Track Camp and serving as a supportive role model to my teammates. These experiences have honed my leadership, empathy, and resilience. I have felt the strength of our 自强不息 spirit as we trained and competed together, pushing our limits and building a deep sense of camaraderie.
These same values have guided my Service Learning journey through Project Luminary, where I facilitate weekly volunteering sessions at a childcare centre in Kembangan, supporting underprivileged children.
Over the past three years, Hwa Chong has nurtured my passions and offered countless opportunities for holistic growth. I am deeply grateful for the experiences that have shaped my character.”
